An epidemic is one of the greatest threats to humanity. However, the world is unprepared for an infectious disease outbreak and the risk is extremely high, as recently shown by the response to the spread of COVID-19 disease.
Dr. Gan Quan has years of experience in public health working with international organizations. He completed his Ph.D. in Public Health and a post-doc on tobacco control research. Since 2009, he has managed China’s Bloomberg Initiative tobacco control grants, developed campaigns and conducted policy research. He became Director of The Union China Office in 2014 and Director of the Tobacco Control Department in 2017.
Dr. Gan discussed his views with The Youth Fund on the career path of public health professionals in the U.S. and internationally. We took an in-depth look at the different public health degrees available and the potential careers available upon graduation. We encourage more Chinese-Americans to get interested in this important profession and make meaningful contributions to the society by helping researching, increasing awareness of and combating health crisis.
